A Night of Russian Terror Against Civilians: Massive Attack on the Energy Sector and Residential Buildings

09.01.2026 в 13:17

The night of January 9, 2026, became one of the toughest tests for Ukraine’s energy system and peaceful cities. Russia deployed an unprecedented amount of weaponry: 242 drones, 22 cruise missiles, and 13 ballistic missiles.

Notably, an “Oreshnik” missile strike was recorded in the Lviv region.

The goal of the Russian attack is obvious — to destroy critical infrastructure during severe cold, leaving millions of people without heat and electricity.

📍 Kyiv and Region: strike on medics and residential buildings.
The capital suffered the most. Twenty residential buildings and the building of the Embassy of Qatar were damaged.
Casualties: 4 people confirmed dead. In the Darnytskyi district, a repeated strike occurred at the moment when rescuers and medical staff were assisting the injured. Among the dead is a paramedic; four more medical workers were wounded.

📍 Lviv Region: ballistic strike.
The enemy hit a critical infrastructure facility. The “Oreshnik” missile, traveling at about 13,000 km/h, caused serious infrastructure damage just 70 km from the EU border. Restoration work continues; part of the consumers have been temporarily disconnected from gas supply.

📍 Frontline Regions
Kryvyi Rih: continuation of yesterday’s Russian ballistic attack. More than 20 residential buildings were damaged; the number of injured has increased to 23. A 77-year-old woman was killed.

Sumy Region: a massive Russian drone attack on energy facilities caused emergency outages.
Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions: hundreds of artillery strikes and air-dropped bombs hit residential areas.

Honor to the rescuers, doctors, and energy workers who risk their lives every night to save others, even as the shells fall around them. Their courage is the reason countless lives are still being protected.

The Association extends deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
