The Association of Frontline Cities and Communities Joins the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine
The Association of Frontline Cities and Communities of Ukraine (AFCCU) has officially joined the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine as an associate partner. This is a key network established under the auspices of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) to coordinate and support Ukraine’s reconstruction at the local and regional levels.
Kharkiv Mayor and AFCCU Chair Ihor Terekhov welcomed the decision of the European Committee of the Regions and emphasized the importance of international partnership:
“We are sincerely grateful for the Committee’s attention to frontline communities and its willingness to cooperate with the Association. We are ready for collaboration that will become a driving force for the recovery of frontline regions. The Association of Frontline Cities and Communities expresses its gratitude to European partners for their support and openness to cooperation for our common goal — the recovery and development of Ukrainian communities.”
Joining the Alliance opens the following opportunities for Ukrainian frontline communities:
· representing the interests of Ukraine’s frontline territories at the European level, including within Alliance meetings and the CoR Working Group on Ukraine;
· engaging frontline communities in city-to-city and region-to-region partnership projects;
· exchanging experience with European municipalities on reconstruction, sustainable development, digitalization, and energy resilience;
· participating in the preparation of CoR recommendations regarding Ukraine’s reconstruction.
For Ukrainian cities and regions, joining the Alliance is also an important opportunity to:
· receive support not only at the state level, but also through direct partnerships with EU local authorities;
· expand areas of cooperation, including infrastructure reconstruction, development of the local business environment, and strengthening the institutional capacity of communities.
AFCCU unites communities operating in frontline and war-affected regions and possesses unique experience in crisis management, infrastructure restoration, and support for the population. The Association focuses on developing partnerships, sharing experience, and strengthening the capacity of local self-government.
The European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine is a platform created under the auspices of the EU Committee of the Regions to coordinate the efforts of European cities and regions in supporting Ukraine. The Alliance brings together local and regional authorities committed to contributing to Ukraine’s sustainable, inclusive, and effective recovery, strengthening its regions, supporting communities, modernizing infrastructure, and developing partnerships between Ukrainian and European municipalities.
